A
brief history of PaGu Batons:
In
the summer of 2007, we adopted a golden retriever puppy who loved to
wake me up at 4:30am. With a little time on my hands before leaving for
school, I started to play around with a lathe that my father had given
me years earlier, but never had the time or need to use it. Being a
conductor, the only thing that came to mind was to make a baton handle
for myself. From that point friends and colleagues encouraged me to
continue making these crude batons for them. A year later the musicians
of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra commissioned me to make an
anniversary gift baton and case for their music director Joann
Falletta for the celebration of her 10th season with the orchestra. It
was at this point that I feverishly worked to refine my skills as a
woodworker to produce the most beautiful product possible. At this
point, I called the batons the PaGu 430 Brand which is a take off of my
first initial of my first name, first three initials of my last name
and the time of the morning I was making my batons.
Since
then, I have
become the official baton maker for Maestro Falletta and several other
conductors of universities, Broadway Shows, schools and community
groups. The PaGu 430 Brand has evolved to PaGu Batons as I have
cataloged dozens of baton styles each with its own model number. To
date, over 700 batons and cases with the PaGu Batons logo have been
sold through stores and at conferences on the East Coast. The future is
looking even better as I am booked as the official baton maker for
conferences and symposiums a year in advance.
In
July of ’09 we plan to
launch our official website pagubatons.com which will feature a wide
variety of PaGu Batons products and services.
